Tuesday Althing: Severed Ways movie
Welcome to another Tuesday Althing. Today I’m happy to announce a continuing Viking invasion — this time at movie theaters.
Behold the poster for Severed Ways: The Norse Discovery of America
Something tells me this will be available on DVD pretty soon. Indeed, I’ve already added it to my Netflix notify-me-when-ready queue . . .
Judging by this NY Times review, Severed Ways promises to be a mishmash of indie verve, history, and anachronism — dare I say some sort of strange Viking rock opera?
Whatever else this movie is, at least the writer/actor/director got the helmets right — no horns. Take that, Wagner. (That’s Vawg-ner to you rock-opera-only fans.) Hallelujah!
Special thanks to Uncle Pete “The Swede” blankstrom [surname prefix omitted to protect dignity–er, privacy–of relative] for giving me a heads up on Severed Ways.
Oh, and if you just HAVE to check out some video, here’s a Severed Ways trailer:
Thanks for stopping by! I hope you’ll come back Thor’s Day, when I intend to write a bit about everyone’s favorite Norse goddess, Freyja.
